A Bookish Blogoversary: Kate Kaynak, author of Minder

As I mentioned yesterday, eight of my favorite authors will be stopping by over the next week to share their favorite reads of the last year!

Kate Kaynak is the author of Minder (Ganzfield #1):

Sixteen-year-old Maddie Dunn is special, but she needs to figure out how to use her new abilities before somebody else gets hurt. Ganzfield is a secret training facility full of people like her, but it's not exactly a nurturing place.

Every social interaction carries the threat of mind-control.

A stray thought can burn a building to the ground.

And people's nightmares don't always stay in their own heads. But it's still better than New Jersey. Especially once she meets the man of her dreams...

Kate's Faves:

As for my favorite reads of the past year (spoiler-free-ish):

MOCKINGJAY by Suzanne Collins
The final book in the HUNGER GAMES was can't-put-it-down amazing. Some people didn't like how the characters developed in this last book, but I thought they rang true and were all the more sympathetic and relatable.

This has an fantastic narrative voice and a wonderfully original premise. White has a wonderful sense of sixteen-year-old exuberance.

HALF-BLOOD by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I pulled this manuscript from the Spencer Hill slushpile and devoured it in a day. It's got an edgy, VAMPIRE ACADEMY vibe with a splash of the same mythological roots as Percy Jackson. It'll be released in September, and the sequel, PURE, is just as OMG awesome.

I hadn't heard of Half-Blood before, but it sounds AMAZING and I'm so glad Kate brought it to my attention! I think I'm actually going to start reading Paranormalcy (at last!) right now, and Mockingjay is on tap for Spring Break!

Thanks so much for sharing, Kate!

What a lovely post. I love seeing what author's enjoy reading. Kate is such a sweetie.

I agree completely with her on Paranormalcy. Evie's narrative voice is what really hooked me into the story. I'd have to say Paranormalcy is one of my favorite recent reads. I hope you enjoy it!

I feel so out of the literary world loop. I still haven't read the Hunger Games! At least I own it, and it is on my TBR list. I guess I should get to it!

I'd really like to get my hands on both Paranormalcy and Half-Blood. I think Kiersten White's titles are so clever! And the book cover for Half-Blood is so beautiful!

I have still only read The Hunger Games, and I'm going to have to re-read it before I can read the last two books.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on getting an ARC of Half-Blood because it sounds so good.

Glad to see someone else enjoyed Mockingjay as much as I did! I know a lot of people were disappointed or didn't like the characters as much (as Kate mentions) but I felt it was a perfect ending to the series.
