Waiting on Wednesday: A Touch Mortal by Leah Clifford

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to highlight upcoming releases we're anxiously awaiting!

Coming February 22, 2011!

A Touch Mortal by Leah Clifford

Death isn't what Eden expected. Where the hell is her release? Her quiet ending? Not that Eden remembers the details of her final hours, but one thing is for sure--becoming a sider, trapped between life and death, was definitely not part of the plan...

For Eden, nothing seems to be coming easy. There's no way of telling  what will happen when her fingertips graze human skin. The power that builds inside her, Touch, strips away morals and logic.

Some people only feel a high; others are overcome by their darkest thoughts.

But honestly there's not much time for her to worry about her effect on mere mortals. She's got her own drama. Somehow, word's gotten around that her Touch can kill her own kind. With desperate siders already camping out on her doorstep, the last thing Eden needs is the rumor to spread. Especially since it's true...

A TOUCH MORTAL is the first of a planned trilogy.

From author's website.

I'll also share the Goodreads description because it seems to show a different aspect of the story:

Eden didn’t expect Az.

Not his saunter down the beach toward her. Not his unbelievable pick up line. Not the instant, undeniable connection. And not his wings.

Yeah.

So long happily-ever-after.

Now trapped between life and death, cursed to spread chaos with her every touch, Eden could be the key in the eternal struggle between heaven and hell. All because she gave her heart to one of the Fallen, an angel cast out of heaven.

She may lose everything she ever had. She may be betrayed by those she loves most. But Eden will not be a pawn in anyone else’s game. Her heart is her own.

And that’s only the beginning of the end.

My thoughts: For some reason I'm on an angel kick lately, so the Goodreads description is what initially piqued my interest. There's just something so fascinating about fallen angels, especially ones that like to cavort with mortals. All things considered, I also love that the heroine's name is Eden. That suggests that there's some kind of deeper undertone going on that dates back to the beginning of earth and time. I don't know whether Eden tempted her angel into some kind of fall, or vice versa, but either way it should be intriguing. After looking at the description from Leah Clifford's site, I also love the idea of Eden being trapped in limbo causing all kinds of chaos. What's her angel up to while she's out there tipping the balance between heaven and hell? Only time will tell! On a side note, the first time I read a description of this book, I thought it said Eden was a "spider" instead of a "sider"...it all makes more sense now lol, though I must admit the idea of being turned into a sentient spider as punishment (especially if you were a poisonous spider) still sounds pretty cool to me.

What release are you eagerly anticipating this week?

Wow, those two descriptions sound really different! I'm intrigued by the idea that she's stuck between life and death and that her touch affects people. Sounds promising!

A Touch Mortal sounds like an interesting twist on the fallen angel idea. Great WoW pick! :) I agree with you that being turned into a poisonous sentient spider as punishment would make for a totally different kind of interesting story.
